St. Patrick’s Day!
Lauren, derdejaars student lerarenopleiding geschiedenis
Dear all,
My name is Lauren, I am currently studying in my third year to become a History teacher.
Having spent this week at Mary Immaculate writing two essays, I decided that this weekend was going to be fun. This weekend was the St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Limerick. On the Limerick website a fireworks show was announced and on Sunday there was going to be a parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
What did I do this week at Mary I?
Visiting my Media and Communication lectures has given me an insight to attendance. Of the 60 people that walked into the lecture at 12 pm, only 19 survived throughout the lecture (ending at 1.30 pm). Does that not make difference to the Netherlands? People just walk out! They are not asked to come back by the lecturer as she probably has no clue how to react to the current situation. Last Friday’s lecture only counted 10 people at the start. Of these 10 people about 2 walked out during the lecture. This is of course embarrassing for the lecturer and the guest lecturer from Morocco who had a lovely chat about Moroccan Film.
Saturday was writing essay day again. Next essay is the gaeilge essay. Having tried to set my mind to writing this piece de resistance I gave up after writing 300 words on this 1500 word essay. I decided that I would write it on Monday as Monday is a bank holiday in Ireland. At night we travelled to the lovely Lár na Cathrach (city centre) to see the fireworks that would start the St. Patrick’s Festival in Limerick.
This was a Saturday evening well spent. Go hiontach! Brilliant! So what was up on Sunday? The parade, which was supposed to last for two whole hours but it did not. At least I spotted a leprechaun and the weather was great. Having said that, the parade was not as good as a Dutch carnaval parade, it was mostly communities trying to reach out to the Limerick public.
Well, let’s give you one more picture of this amazing weather this weekend in Limerick. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity as rain usually falls down on my head.
Greetings from Luimneach!
Hoi,
Dat was beslist een leuke dag om in Ierland te vieren.
groetjes!
