Rugby, eating crocodile and hike the Lions Head
Mark’s adventure continues:
The days are so random now that I actually forgot to post a blog yesterday. So here I am, in the early morning thinking about all the things I have done in the past week. It was, as always, a busy weekend.
The Wednesday and Thursday were very quiet. I was home alone but I finally had something to do. I started my project and in short I will explain what it is about. I am going to create a mobile application in which you can see blog posts, just like these. People at the municipality will keep this blog up-to-date and make sure the latest information is readable there. Every time a new post is posted, the users should receive a notification from that. Sounds easy, is complicated in some ways. Also on Thursday I decided to do some groceries. I walked to the Spar, bought my stuff and then at the cash desk I reminded myself I walked to the Spar.. Bought almost too much so that the handles of the bags would snap, but I made it.
At Friday in the late afternoon the girls from Genadendal came over. They cooked us some diner, delicious pasta and brownies. In the evening some chilling next to the fireplace. The next morning we tried to wake up early. We went to cape town to the Green Market. A really nice market filled with every African thing you can imagine. From clothes to statues, from paintings to jewelry. I bought myself a bracelet there. After that we went to a rugby game at the Newlands stadium. It was the first time for me at a rugby match and I no idea that the rules were about, but I would find out. I really enjoyed the match and the Western Province (the club I should be supporting) won from the Sharks.
In the evening we arrived at ‘Mama Afrika’. This is such a nice restaurant, one of a kind. There was a live band playing music and all the waiters and waitresses were super kind. They helped everyone with choosing what they wanted to eat and drink and also explained what kind of food it was. Lisa and I shared a mixed grill menu. This included Crocodile, Ostrich, Springbok and two other kinds of meat. It was with one word: Delicious. Afterwards we went out and we stranded at a karaoke bar. My throat still hurts.
Sunday morning, hangover morning.. Or not? Somehow I felt newborn. I woke up pretty early and went to a 24h supermarket to buy myself some yogurt, came back to the hostel and still was the only one awake. After a while everyone was awake and we planned to go to the Food Festival in Woodstock. It was pretty close to the ‘Old Biscuit Mill’ where I was in the first week. Again this was the place to be, so much food, so delicious and cheap. It would have been a waste if I had a hangover. I had a perfect pulled pork burger and something to drink. The weather was perfect, 25 degrees and sunshine. Then we decided to do a hike, not just a hike, but we wanted to climb the Lions Head. So we did. We went to the Lions Head, bought ourselves some water and started climbing. Unprepared as I was I wore long jeans. Everyone was looking at them because it was too warm for that and too uncomfortable. Once we were on the top we chilled there for about an hour. We enjoyed the view and took a lot of pictures. At one moment a police helicopter flew by, very close and very loud. It was almost dangerous that it would blow is off the mountain. Nah just kidding, it was cool to see.
Next Monday Rob and I went to Waterfront. Rob had a meeting there and I had done some minor work in the morning. Together with some girls from the other house we went shopping there and went to another Food Market. Again it was perfect. Why is all the food so cheap and so good looking here? We also met Mieke in Waterfront and the three of us went to Camps Bay. This is such a beautiful place. We chilled at a beach bar and at the beach itself watching sunset. More pictures will be shown at the picture album.
When it was dark we went to the Eastern Food Bazaar. Again, food.. This time all Asian food and again very very cheap. I bought myself some rice and chicken with a nice sauce for 40 rand (2 euro’s 50 cents) and I could eat from that for 2 days. Never had such a big portion of food. We rolled back to our car, drove to Somerset West and picked up Lotte who was coming back from a bachelor party from a family member.
Tuesday and Wednesday were working days again. I made a lot of progression in the app but now I am stuck at one thing. Luckily I planned everything very save so I have a buffer. Next Friday I will meet Nino Hendricks from the municipality again and then I can discuss some things.
For now, hope you enjoyed my blog again. And this time in Afrikaans: Dankie vir die lees en tot die volgende keer.
