My first week in Bali
Hi everyone, In april I am going to Bali, Indonesia for the first time. I will go there for my minor. I am studying Nutrition and Dietetics. I hope that you will enjoy the blogs and that you like the pictures when I post them. I will keep in touch! Martijn.
Hi guys,
I finally arrived in Bali last week. After looking forward for 10 weeks to go to Bali, the moment was there that Cas and I were on the airfield. It was really hard for me, my family and my girlfriend to say goodbye for the 10 weeks I will be here. But then the journey began…
We arrived Tuesday evening in Denpasar at the airfield, the first thing I noticed was the busy and crowded traffic. The traffic in Bali drive on the left side, but everyone is driving between each other and overtaking a lot. Then we arrived at our accommodation, the first thing I thought when we arrived was that the house was different than I thought it would be. I wasn’t used to this. So, we went to bed and in bed I got a culture shock, I was really in panic and I really wanted to go home.
The days after the first night were a lot better, I got used to the house and I am already calling it ‘home’. The food is of course very different than in the Netherlands but it is really tasty and good food. The people are very nice to everyone and they smile all day long. They are friendly and they want to help you a lot. So that is also a difference in culture. Then we got a scooter and for me it wasn’t that hard to get used to the busy traffic in Ubud (Ubud is the city we are living). We had conversations with our internship mentor and it was good to have conversations because it got clear what we are going to do and what they expect from us. We haven’t been on our school because of a ceremony and foreigners aren’t allowed to be there. That is a shame because we would like to see such ceremony. In Bali they have a lot of ceremony’s. So in the second week we can start our internship and we really look forward to begin.
I will keep in touch!
