This weekend it’s Ascension weekend and there are a lot of different events organised nearby. Today a list of events where you can spend the 2 extra days off in the Arnhem- Nijmegen region. 

Arnhem

• Dauwtrappen in Sonsbeek park (May 25)

If you have absolutely no problem in getting up early, this Dutch tradition might be your cup of tea. Hike 4 kilometers with (or without) a park ranger between 07:00 and 09:00 through Sonsbeek park. Entrance is €7,50 pp and includes breakfast in the Molenschuur. Reservations via info@molenplaatssonsbeek.nl  

• Hoogte80 festival (May 25 up and until May 28)

From Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th May Hoogte80 city park (in the Monnikenhuizen area) offers various music and theater performances in tents, on stage and in the open air. Entrance to the festival site is free, but some (Dutch) performances do require an entrance fee.

• ISA & Rugby Union Sportsday 2.0 (May 26)

Play creative, fun and clever days, by combining team work with personal athletic capabilities organised by the HAN International Student Association and the Rugby Union. Whether you’re a sport enthusiast or more of a couch potato, it really does not matter! Free entrance from 14:00 – 16:00 at Park Presikhaaf.

• Latin Summer Festival (May 28)

This Sunday, Grand Café Aan de Beek and surroundings will transform to a tropical oasis. International music in Bachata, Salsa, Merengue and Kizomda style, together with workshops and tropical snacks- and drinks between 15:00 and 21:00 for € 12,50 pp at the door.

Nijmegen

• Food Truck Festival 2017 (May 25 up and until May 28)

Go on an international culinary journey at the Hunnerpark. There will be different kind of food stands, specialised bars and music performances throughout the weekend. Entrance to the festival site is free, however it goes without saying that the dishes have their own prices. Opening hours: 25/05 00:00 – 23:00, 26/05 16:00 – 23:00, 27/05 14:00 – 23:00 & 27/05 14:00 – 22:00.

• Splash Nijmegen 2017 (May 25 up and until May 28)

Slide on Nijmegen’s longest waterslide all the way down via the steep Waalkade stairs alongside the Casino. An interactive experience with cocktails and music! Buy your tickets for €16,50 pp at http://splashyourcity.com/tickets-bestellen/

• Jazz Festival Breda (May 25 up and until May 28)

If you’re tired of Arnhem and/ or Nijmegen, the International Jazz festival might be for you. At this free jazz festival, national as well as international performers, perform in the city centre of Breda. Luckily, you can buy a weekend day ticket at Kruidvat stores for only €13,99.*

*IMPORTANT: Kruidvat train tickets are only valid during the weekend. You can buy them between May 22 and June 4, and they are valid from Saturday 27th of May up and until Sunday 30th of July for second class only.

Upcoming Pentecost Weekend!

• Music Meeting Nijmegen (June 3 up and until June 5)

Keep your eyes out for the upcoming Music Meeting Event in Nijmegen. Get your student tickets at http://www.musicmeeting.nl/nl/tickets

IMPORTANT: you can get a reduced student ticket for €10 on Saturday and €1 on Sunday and Monday if you bring your HANcard. You have to scroll down until you see “STUDENT- Dagkaart park Zondag” (day ticket Sunday), “STUDENT- Dagkaart park Maandag” (day ticket Monday) and “STUDENT- MMMoves Zaterdag” (MMMoves performance on Saturday).

• Nijmeegse Bierfeesten (June 3 up and until June 5)

During this three-day event, 60 (local) brewers will present their beers at Valkhof park starting at 14:00h. Again, the event will be supported by different musicians and food trucks. Even though the festival site holds a free entrance policy, beers and food do cost money. Proost.
