IMAGINE ondersteunt het gedachtengoed van het ‘Manifest van de Aarde (Earth Charter)’.

‘Wij bevinden ons op een kritiek moment in de geschiedenis van de Aarde, een tijd waarin de mensheid haar toekomst moet kiezen.’ (CMO)

Het is de maatschappelijke opdracht van het onderwijs een betekenisvolle bijdrage te leveren aan de ontwikkeling van studenten zodat zij zijn voorbereid op hun toekomst. IMAGINE heeft de ambitie een beweging in gang te zetten die bijdraagt aan dit doel door in het onderwijs aandacht te vragen voor de Global Goals oftewel de mondiale duurzame werelddoelen. Deze werelddoelen zijn in 2015 door de VN opgesteld om te streven naar de realisatie van een duurzame mondiale samenleving in 2030, gebaseerd op respect voor de natuur, universele mensenrechten, economische- en sociale rechtvaardigheid.

HOW

Omdat het onderwijs een centrale en vernieuwende rol speelt in de uitdagingen waar de samenleving voor staat richt IMAGINE een inspirerende community op voor ‘Global Change’. Deze community is gericht op het verbinden van initiatieven rond deze thema’s, en zeker ook voor kennisdeling en kenniscreatie op deze thema’s.

De community wordt gevormd door wereldburgers vanuit onderwijs, onderzoek en werkveld binnen en buiten de HAN. Door middel van community building wordt creativiteit van deelnemers gestimuleerd waardoor valorisatie, ondernemerschap en innovatie tot stand komt. De 5 P’s (People, Planet en Prosperity (voorheen Profit), Peace en Partnerships worden harmonieus gecombineerd met de werelddoelen en vormen het uitgangspunt voor en van deze beweging met als uiteindelijk doel de maatschappelijke betrokkenheid en -bewustzijn van studenten (Bildung) te stimuleren.

WHAT

Om te komen tot betekenisvolle meervoudige waarde creatie heeft IMAGINE een aantal doelen geformuleerd:

ONTWIKKELING DIGITAAL PLATFORM

Er wordt in co-creatie met- door- en voor studenten een digitale broedplaats ontwikkeld waar zij elkaar kunnen inspireren tot het gezamenlijk uitdenken van inclusieve oplossingen voor de uitdagingen waar wij allen voor staan. Het doel van dit platform is om op deze manier vanuit intrinsieke motivatie van de student te komen tot concrete multidisciplinaire projecten die aansluiten bij de Global Goals. Dit platform biedt een fantastische kapstok om de vele initiatieven binnen de HAN te verbinden waardoor interactieve uitwisseling wordt versterkt. Studenten lijken hiervoor sterk gemotiveerd omdat zij graag actief willen bijdragen aan de toekomst die hen te wachten staat. Dit platform geeft hen die stem.

De mogelijkheid bestaat om aan de projecten/initiatieven die voortkomen uit het platform incentives als studiepunten te koppelen door de verbinding te leggen met stages, afstudeeropdrachten, minoren en excellentietrajecten.

ORGANISEREN VAN DE FYSIEKE ONTMOETING

Naast het realiseren van een digitaal platform jaagt IMAGINE de waardevolle fysieke ontmoeting aan door deze met regelmaat te organiseren. Door middel van het inbrengen van diverse relevante thema’s inspireren we elkaar en gaan we hierover met elkaar de dialoog aan waarbij we ons baseren op de principes als wederkerigheid, wederzijds respect en openhartigheid. Op deze manier realiseren wij gezamenlijk een sterke sociale verbinding in deze community.

INCORPOREREN GLOBAL GOALS IN HET ONDERWIJS

IMAGINE streeft naar de incorporatie van de Global Goals in het onderwijs door Global Citizenship (wereldburgerschap) te promoten. Global Citizenship is een ethisch appèl dat zich onontkoombaar en onherroepelijk aandient. Want de student – de professional van de nabije toekomst – verhoudt zich tot de rest van de wereld. Dit is dus geen luxe of individuele keuze, noch is het een aan het onderwijs supplementair thema, maar een appèl op ons bestaan als hedendaagse wereldbewoners wat tevens leidt tot zingeving van het onderwijs. Deze geglobaliseerde verantwoordelijkheid beperkt zich niet slechts tot internationaal georiënteerde opleidingen, maar wereldburgerschap is de eis van global awareness. Om dit te bereiken gaan we de dialoog aan met verschillende stakeholders om te bezien hoe we deze incorporatie kunnen bewerkstelligen. Wij van IMAGINE hebben verschillende actoren binnen de HAN nodig om met de Global Goals aan de slag te gaan en deze te verwerken in de eigen toekomstvisie, beleid en strategie

SAMENWERKING

IMAGINE gaat actief de samenwerking aan met (maatschappelijke) organisaties, collega instellingen, de overheid en het bedrijfsleven om zo elkaar en dit initiatief te versterken in de opdracht waar wij allen voor staan. IMAGINE werkt al samen met One World, het multimediale journalistieke platform voor mondiaal denken en groen doen. Stichting NCDO (Nationale Commissie voor Internationale Samenwerking en Duurzame Ontwikkeling) is uitgever van ‘One World’. Deze stichting levert voor Nederlandse burgers, bedrijven en overheden een bijdrage aan het inzicht in, de kennis over en betrokkenheid bij duurzame mondiale ontwikkeling.

In Nederland zijn de eerste samenwerkingsverbanden ontstaan. In de Global Goals Charter zijn bedrijven, overheid, financiële instellingen en overige organisaties samengebracht. Dit platform biedt de mogelijkheid om de initiatieven welke IMAGINE ontplooit te profileren buiten de HAN. Een ander goed voorbeeld is SDG Nederland. Dit is een platform dat meer dan 75 van de bovengenoemde partijen verbindt om partnerschappen op te zetten teneinde de Global Goals te realiseren.

Ook de Nederlandse rijksoverheid omarmt de Global Goals als internationaal kader voor een duurzame toekomst om zo met elkaar samen te werken aan maatschappelijke opgaven.

Wij van IMAGINE willen de verbinding leggen tussen de HAN met bovengenoemde en andere initiatieven om zo als Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen het voortouw te nemen als ‘verbinder’ en ‘belangenbehartiger’ binnen het hoger onderwijs om zo barrières en dilemma’s op te lossen en positieve impact te versnellen.

MONITOREN EN RAPPORTEREN GLOBAL GOALS

Vanwege ecologische-, economische- en sociale uitdagingen in de globaliserende economie worden bedrijven in toenemende mate verantwoordelijk gehouden voor de maatschappelijke effecten die hun bedrijfsvoering met zich mee brengt. Zij moeten zich ervan bewust worden dat het in de toekomst niet alleen gaat over het creëren van financiële waarden, maar veeleer om sociale en ecologische waarden.

In 2016 hebben de Europese Unie en de Verenigde Naties afspraken gemaakt en 230 indicatoren opgesteld over hoe de voortang op de Global Goals kan worden gevolgd (monitoring) en gemeten (indicatoren). Nederland rapporteert aan de VN over de voortgang van duurzame ontwikkeling. Het Nederlandse bedrijfsleven omarmt deze beweging in toenemende mate. Zij tonen d.m.v. hun jaarrapportages aan dat zij bijdragen aan deze doelen. De inzichten die deze wijze van rapporteren geeft kan bijdragen aan de noodzakelijke transitie naar een duurzame samenleving en deze mogelijk versnellen.

De HAN met haar voorbeeldfunctie en haar maatschappelijke opdracht kan niet achter blijven in deze ontwikkelingen.

 

WHY

IMAGINE supports the ideas of the ‘Manifesto of Earth (Earth Charter)’.

It is the social task of education to make a meaningful contribution to the development of students so that they are prepared for their future. IMAGINE has the ambition to initiate a movement that contributes to this goal by drawing attention in education to the Global Goals, ie the Global Sustainable World Goals. These global goals were set by the UN in 2015 to aim for the realisation of a sustainable global society in 2030, based on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic and social justice.

HOW

Because education plays a central and innovative role in the challenges facing society, IMAGINE establishes an inspiring community for ‘Global Change’. This community is focused on connecting initiatives on these themes, and certainly also to knowledge sharing and knowledge creation on these themes.

The community is formed by global citizens from education, research and the field of work inside and outside the HAN University of Applied Sciences. By means of community building, creativity of participants is stimulated so that valorisation, entrepreneurship and innovation come about. The 5 Ps (People, Planet and Prosperity (formerly Profit), Peace and Partnerships are harmoniously combined with the global goals and form the starting point for and of this movement with the ultimate goal of stimulating the social involvement and awareness of students (Bildung).

WHAT

In order to achieve meaningful multiple value creation, IMAGINE has formulated a number of goals:

DEVELOPMENT DIGITAL PLATFORM

A digital breeding ground is being developed in co-creation with- and for students, where they can inspire each other to jointly devise inclusive solutions for the challenges we all face. The aim of this platform is to arrive at concrete multidisciplinary projects in line with the Global Goals based on intrinsic motivation of the student. This platform provides a fantastic pivot to connect the many initiatives within HAN, thus strengthening interactive exchange.

Students seem strongly motivated for this because they want to actively contribute to the future that awaits them. This platform gives them that voice.

The possibility exists to link the projects / initiatives that arise from the platform incentives as credits by connecting with internships, graduation assignments, minors and excellence tracks.

ORGANISING THE PHYSICAL MEETING

In addition to realising a digital platform, IMAGINE encourages the valuable physical encounter by organising it regularly. By introducing various relevant themes we inspire each other and we enter into dialogue with each other on this basis, based on the principles of reciprocity, mutual respect and frankness. In this way we jointly realise a strong social connection in this community.

INCORPORATE GLOBAL GOALS IN EDUCATION

IMAGINE strives to promote the incorporation of the Global Goals into education by promoting Global Citizenship (Global Citizenship). Global Citizenship is an ethical appeal that presents itself inescapably and irrevocably. Because the student – the professional of the near future – relates to the rest of the world. This is therefore not a luxury or individual choice, nor is it an education-supplemental theme, but an appeal to our existence as contemporary world residents, which also leads to a sense of education. This globalised responsibility is not limited to internationally oriented training, but global citizenship is the requirement of global awareness. In order to achieve this, we enter into dialogue with various stakeholders to see how we can achieve this incorporation. We at IMAGINE need different actors within HAN to work with the Global Goals and incorporate these into their own vision of the future, policy and strategy.

COLLABORATION

IMAGINE actively cooperates with (social) organisations, fellow institutions, the government and the business community in order to reinforce each other and this initiative in the mission we all stand for. IMAGINE is already working with One World, the multi-media journalistic platform for global thinking and doing green. The NCDO Foundation (National Commission for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development) is the publisher of ‘One World’. This foundation contributes to Dutch citizens, companies and governments to the understanding, knowledge and involvement in sustainable global development.

The first partnerships have emerged in the Netherlands. Companies, government, financial institutions and other organisations are brought together in the Global Goals Charter. This platform offers the opportunity to profile the initiatives that IMAGINE develops outside the HAN. Another good example is SDG Nederland. This is a platform that connects more than 75 of the above mentioned parties to set up partnerships in order to realise the Global Goals.

The Dutch government also embraces the Global Goals as an international framework for a sustainable future in order to work together on social challenges.

We at IMAGINE want to make the connection between the HAN with the aforementioned and other initiatives to take the lead as Higher University of Arnhem and Nijmegen as a ‘connector’ and ‘advocate’ in higher education in order to solve barriers and dilemmas and positive impact to speed up.

MONITORING AND REPORTING GLOBAL GOALS

Due to ecological, economic and social challenges in the globalising economy, companies are increasingly held responsible for the social effects that their business entails.

They must be aware that in the future it is not just about creating financial values, but rather about social and ecological values.

In 2016, the European Union and the United Nations made agreements and produced 230 indicators on how to monitor the progress of the Global Goals (monitoring) and measured (indicators). The Netherlands reports to the UN on the progress of sustainable development. The Dutch business community is increasingly embracing this movement. They show by means of their annual reports indicate that they contribute to these goals. The insights provided by this reporting method can contribute to the necessary transition to a sustainable society and possibly accelerate it.

The HAN with its exemplary function and its social mission can not be left behind in these developments into a new sustainable age.
