Zero tolerance for transgressive behaviour
HAN University of Applied Sciences wants to be a safe environment for students and staff. Unfortunately, this is not always the case in practice. That is why the HAN has now signed a manifesto, which should make it easier for students to raise the alarm. After all, the university has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to sexual transgressive behaviour.
By signing Amnesty International’s manifesto Let’s talk about Yes, the HAN University of Applied Sciences shows that this topic is taken very seriously. The university deals with young people and in education there is always an inequality of power.
“We don’t accept when these kind of things happens. We have a very nice system with confidants and student psychologists. People should make use of that”, says Bridget Kievits of the Executive Board to Omroep Gelderland.
“Let’s talk about Yes means that you ask permission before you engage with people,” explains student Marloes Grooten. “It is very much focused on sexually transgressive behaviour and is about normalising the ‘yes’ and normalising the question.”
