Why a smoking and vaping ban at HAN Campus?
To create a healthy learning and working environment, smoking (including vaping) remains prohibited on all HAN campuses. This therefore also applies under the R29 parking deck. Smoking or vaping (e-cigarette) is therefore only allowed outside the campus grounds.
This still takes some getting used to for some students, but also for some lecturers and other staff.
Why are you not allowed to smoke?
HAN prepares students for their professional careers, and smoking is not allowed on the work floor either. Therefore, as HAN, we think it is important to set this standard at school as well. We would like to be a healthy school for all students and staff.
With this measure, HAN complies with the Tobacco and Smoking Act, which states that all educational institutions in the Netherlands are obliged to have a smoke-free site.
The government is implementing the non-smoking policy to prevent young people from starting smoking. It also wants to help people who want to quit smoking and protect co-smokers from tobacco or vapour smoking.
Enforcement is based on the existing code of conduct and house rules, which provide sufficient guidance for students and staff to address each other about undesirable behaviour in a respectful manner.
