What does the exam committee do?
Good and reliable testing is an important part of good education. An exam committee at HAN monitors the quality of exams and their organisation. It checks whether a student meets the conditions set in the Education and Examination Regulations (OER) with regard to knowledge, insight and skills required to obtain a degree (= attainment targets).
Important tasks of the board of examiners in this respect are
- appointing examiners;
- guaranteeing the quality of examinations, tests and exams;
- establish guidelines for assessing and determining the results of tests and examinations.
But the board of examiners does more!
The board of examiners also has the authority to grant exemptions, to deviate from the provisions in the OER in a number of cases (for instance, by granting an extra or earlier examination opportunity) and to impose sanctions on students who have committed fraud.
The examination committee lays down rules for the execution of its duties and powers. These are included in the Examination Board Regulations that, in addition to the OER, are part of the Programme Statute (OS).
