Tarleton State University mechanical engineering students visit HAN

On Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 May, a delegation of Mechanical and Construction Engineering students from Tarleton State University from Texas visited the HAN School of Engineering and Automotive. They feasted their eyes!

The students got to see what our engineering and automotive labs have to offer. The visit was part of a ten-day tour of the Netherlands.

On Tuesday, they visited our ARLA Automotive Research Lab. Researcher Michiel Klifman gave a demonstration with the Street Drone and then they got a look at the lab’s research projects and facilities. For instance, researcher Frank Ahout gave a presentation on the Clean Ship project. Then it was the turn of practice supervisor Antal Hendriks to give a tour and explanation of our ARLE labs at Ruitenberglaan 26.

Visit at IPKW

On Wednesday, the same delegation visited the Industriepark Kleefse Waard (IPKW) in Arnhem to learn more about sustainable mobility and the development of hydrogen technology. During the visit, they were shown around Nedstack, a producer of hydrogen fuel cell systems. Here, they got an insight into the company’s production processes and research work.

They then visited the Mobility Innovation Centre where the students were treated to a typical Dutch croquette sandwich during lunch by workshop manager Juk Jager. After this, they were given a tour by Suzanne Ezendam, during which Automotive student Erik Regterschot explained Regterschot Engineering’s Sustainable Racing Car.

Lecturer Ad Oomen then took over to talk with his passion about the innovative and rapid developments of the MORE modular research vehicle. The students also got a glimpse into the future of mobility through the SPARC mobility concept. This presentation was given by lecturer Koen Lau.

The tour continued past the HAN Hydrogen Lab, HyMatters, where they were informed about the development of hydrogen technology. Finally, they visited HyEt solar/hydrogen to learn more about the development of solar energy and hydrogen.

This tastes like more!

Tarleton State University’s visit is a first exploration in a possible further development of international cooperation with the HAN Academy of Engineering and Automotive in the field of sustainable mobility and hydrogen technology. By exchanging knowledge and expertise, we can develop new innovations to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility, for example. To celebrate the good time, the visit ended festively with a snack and a drink.
