S6-project: Trolley 2.0 Optimalisation

Nowadays, sustainability is one of the most important talking points in the transport industry. Public transport is no exception from this rule. For this reason, the local government of Arnhem and Gelderland has decided to make the Rijnlijn between Arnhem and Wageningen carbon natural. The bus company, Connexxion, has decided to adapt the trolley buses to allow them to drive without overhead wires.

Due to the heating system of the current buses uses up to 50% of the energy of the bus, Connexxion asked the Trolley 2.0 Optimalisation to think of a more energy efficient way to heat up the bus.

Trolley 2.0 Optimalisation has set up a couple of solutions to make a better heating strategy for the bus. These differ from changing the current heating system, to investigating entirely new heating systems.

The end goal for the project is to be part of the puzzle to make the bus journey between Arnhem and Nijmegen carbon natural.
