New group of students to work on MORE vehicle project

How do you design and build a vehicle that bridges the gap between theoretical simulation and practical application? And what are good solutions to easily and quickly test developments and ideas? These are the central questions within the MORE project.

MORE vehicle was launched in the 2020/2021 academic year as an international project to build a vehicle inspired by the idea of the Thyssenkrupp Modular Research Platform. Last month, the board visited the HAN Campus in Arnhem to see the MORE vehicle that the students have built. The meeting and presentation were very nice and interesting!

Meanwhile, a new (international) group of HAN students is continuing with MORE. At the moment, about 50 students are working on the project:

  • 12 Mechanical Engineering students from the 2nd year
  • 2 Automotive Engineering students doing an internship
  • 36 students in the Engineering Systems master’s programme (including the Automotive Systems master track), divided over 9 minor project groups (4 per group)
  • 1 graduate student of the Master’s programme in Engineering Systems on an assignment paid for by industry

All the assignments are interlinked and the graduate student in particular is dependent on the results of the various project groups.

However, MORE also employs students from other schools, such as REA College. These students are being trained to become professional master welders. They will weld the construction of the front of the MORE vehicle. The parts have been ordered and next week REA students will start welding the frames. So the stuff will actually be built!

In the meantime, a group of Mechanical Engineering students has taken heavy parts from the middle section. They are currently designing the front suspension that will also be used as rear suspension. That’s a different kettle of fish from writing a report. Now the feedback comes from practice and you know: practice is always right!

It’s exciting, because this wonderful project ensures that students of intermediate and higher vocational education work together with practice-based research and the business community!
