Mick’s 2022 festival season
The Easter weekend was the official start of the festival season in the Netherlands, with festivals like Paaspop. During the next 20 weeks there will be around 230 festivals. Due to covid, this will be the first festival season that I will attend. I am so exited! In this blog post I’ll be talking about what festivals I will go to and which festivals you should attend near Arnhem.
27 April was Kings Day, this is a Dutch festivity to celebrate the birthday of our king. We celebrate this by having loads of flea markets around the city where you can buy all kind of things and of course by drinking a lot of beer. Most of the stuff on the flee markets is worthless, but sometimes you will find an item that is actually useful to you. During the night most people will go to festivals. These will be held the night of the 26th and during the whole day on the 27th. The dress codes at these parties is universal, you have to wear orange.
I personally attended a party in the Melkfabriek in Arnhem called 8bahn. This is a house / techno party. Like most of the other festivals, this one doesn’t charge an entry fee. KingSize is also held in Arnhem, this is a huge festival held in some of the larger cities of the Netherlands. I do not like the music they play at these parties, so I won’t attend it.
The rest of the festival season is still a bit vague to me. I would like to go to some drum and bass festivals, but they can be quite expensive. Since no one has attended any festival the last 2 years it will be difficult to get hold on some tickets.
But Nijmegen has something called the summer-parties. This is during the Vierdaagse and the whole city will be transformed into a festival. There are a lot of stages scattered throughout the city with all types of music. I am really looking forward to this since the last time I went there was 4 years ago and I have changed a lot since then. And for the people that do not enjoy partying they can walk the 4-daagse.
