Lecture by Ami Wang: Inventory Management at Volkswagen Group

Unfortunately, due to illness, the announced guest lecture with Samir Loncaric from Volkswagen Group on Wednesday morning 6 December could not take place and will be moved to a day and time to be announced.

However, the students present (including Automotive, Mechanical Engineering and International School of Business students) were able to attend an interesting lecture on Inventory Management. This presentation was given enthusiastically by lecturer Ami Wang.

“While working for a leading U.S. biotech company in Beijing, I had the opportunity to work closely with the operations management team to understand the relationship between operations management and finance. This gave me the opportunity to understand this business operation from both sides’ perspectives”, says Ami Wang.

What is Inventory Management?

Inventory Management is the process of organising the flow of goods through a company (in this case Volkswagen) in a continuous cycle of ordering, storing, producing, selling and restocking goods. When determining their inventory strategy, companies make trade-offs between minimising the amount of cash tied up in inventory and holding more inventory to maximise customer service or production efficiency.
