Innovative student projects at the S6 Engineering Congress ‘The incredible True Story’
Students have been working hard over the past few months to work on realistic projects from the branche, in collaboration with lectorers, fellow students and students from other degree courses.
The 6th semester is all about these projects of the engineering fulltime degree courses that are part of the HAN School of Engineering and Automotive. This year, a separate congress was organised for Engineering students and Automotive students.
Take a look at the after movie of the S6 Engineering Event on the HAN Campus!
What’s so special about semester 6?
It has been a very informative semester but also very exciting. Because it is only a very short period to come up with a plan for businesses, researching whether this plan would work out, and in the meantime collaborate with the fellow students of your team. Extra challenge: try to realise your plan in these uncomfortable corona times. Luckily, most students proved to be resilient by finding new ways to collaborate via Teams and work towards creative solutions.
And the results?
These were proudly presented on Thursday morning 17 June, at the S6 Engineering Congress ‘The Incredible True Story’. Especially for the participating students of degree courses Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Product Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management, but also for the teachers and companies. It was possible to attend the event online, but guests were also physically welcome at the HAN.
As the corona regulations were eased, students were able to present their projects physically at the HAN as well. From the 25 projects in total, it was up to the students themselves to decide which 12 projects earned a place at the S6 congress. The online selection took place one week in advance.
Which projects were nominated?
Eventually, it was up to the following projects to present at the S6 congress.
- Activating Parkinson Patiënts with Sensoring (APPS)
- Ferry Green
- Gerret the Autonomous Robot Mower
- High Temperature 3D-printer
- Infant (baby) Advanced Basic Life Support Simulation
- Mycelium: a new solution by nature
- Plastic Afval (Be)leeft! (Plastic Waste is Alive!)
- SolarDrone – An Autonomous Data Acquisition Vessel
- U-shaped assembly cell
- Varex Imaging Digital Twinning
- Wind Driven at the Racing Aeolus 2021 student event
11 out of these 12 projects gave a presentation. Unfortunately, one of the groups decided to withdraw, only one day before the event. A missed opportunity!
And the winners are…
To make it even more exiting, a jury was present to assess the projects. Students and other guests who were present at the event were allowed to vote for the Popularity Award. A number of prizes were available for this. The final winners are:
Expert Award
1 Activating Parkinson Patiënts with Sensoring (APPS)
2 Mycelium: a new solution by nature
3 Gerret the Autonomous Robot Mower
Popularity Award
1 Infant (baby) Advanced Basic Life Support Simulation
2 Mycelium: a new solution by nature
3 Configure to Innovate with the Honeycomb
Best student presentation
At the start of the congress, students were able to tell their own ‘Incredible True Story’ to a larger group of students. According to the jury, the most inspiring and convincing presentation was the one from Kadir Bayma, student Industrial Product Engineering.
We would like to congratulate all winners!

Great stuff for our HAVO group and the 1st years students to see why they need to excel in their studies: to get this feeling of success.
