How can we have more charitable awareness in projects?

Maen Alharbi is an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student who has been inspired through following the minor In Search of Meaning.

This minor is an exchange course at HAN University of Applied Sciences where you learn to deal with life questions in your personal and professional life. What is the meaning of life? Why do we exist? What should we pursue? You will learn about different topics related to spirituality, philosophy, happiness, mindfulness and personal values.

Maen: “During my time here at HAN and while focusing on my major Engineering course, I realized that a lot of the students here share passion in the technical and technological realm to apply or advance in it which is great and is also the driving force behind every semester project.”

“However, from my experience in such projects and discussions with fellow students, I find that a lot of times a meaningful purpose for the WHY question is absent. What is experience is that most of these projects are designed to be done systematically without much deliberation between students and project supervisors on why the project is relevant and how it can benefit people and connect with community. Not just solve a challenge faced by the industry or a client. By the way, at HAN4L I do see this reflected. HAN4L stands out in having a humanitarian cause as the end goal in Marrakesh.”

“I wonder how can this mundane structure change to include more charitable awareness in projects and build a sense of thoughtfulness towards the community, society etc. through compassion. And adding more personal meaning to these semester projects at HAN.”

As fellow students, how do you feel about this interesting thought of Maen? What could we do with it, what ideas do you have? Please, you can send an email to Maen about this and/or post your reaction under this posting. Maen looks forward to hearing your/your response!

Nice initiative! Entrepeneurship (commercial ánd humanitarian work) will be stronger and more succesfull, more fulfilling for both entrepeneurs and clients, if you know why you are doing this. Thank you, Maen, for connecting and promoting this type of moral personal reflection with a nice project as HAN4L.
