HAN confidential counsellors lend you an ear

HAN attaches great importance to a pleasant work and study environment. Good to know: if you are facing inappropriate behaviour at school, there are 9 HAN counsellors to help you. You can choose who you would like to contact.

What does a confidential counsellor do?

HAN counsellors for integrity and undesirable behaviour support you in cases of intimidation, bullying, discrimination and domestic violence. They are not an extension of the organisation or school. Every report is strictly confidential. As the person making the report, you are in charge and nothing happens without your permission. The confidants start from the way in which you as reporter have experienced an incident and, above all, they are a sympathetic ear. It can be very relieving to share an issue that is bothering you in confidence. If and when behaviour of a staff member or fellow student is undesirable, that is up to you.

For whom and when?

Anyone can approach the counsellors about a wide range of issues: if you are seriously or slightly bothered by sexual harassment, bullying, gossip, intimidation or discrimination. This may have taken place on campus, in the student association or during an internship, that does not matter for receiving support.

If you need help or advice on how to deal with this, or if you just want to talk about it with someone you can trust, you can contact them. The confidential counsellor also helps when it comes to more subtle issues in the treatment, where the reporter does not dare to speak out directly to the accused. For example because there is a relationship of dependency between student and lecturer or examiner.

Independent and confidential

The HAN confidential counsellors are certified and members of the National Association of Counsellors (LVVV). The counsellors work independently and strictly confidentially. Therefore, you do not need to worry that others might hear about your conversation with them. You can also decide for yourself what step(s) to take next.

If you are only looking for a sympathetic ear, that is all. If you want to take further action to stop the behaviour, the confidential advisor will support you. For example, you can ask for help in submitting a formal complaint or indictment.
