Getting more out of international visions on sustainable mobility through a minor abroad

Our partner university in Germany Technical Hochschule Wildau (30 min from Berlin) organized for the first time a Sustainable Mobility Summer Academy. The theme of the Summer Academy was ‘Approaches to Sustainable Mobility: The Role of Cycling and other Modes of Transport’.

Industrial Design Engineering student Chanah Burgers participated, and lecturer Hans Schreuder gave a lecture/workshop. In total 16 students from around the world participated to learn more about mobility and share different views on visions towards a more sustainable future.

The days were packed with guest lectures by speakers from different countries. Apart from the program students worked on an assignment of neighboring town of Eichwalde and discussed matters with different officials amongst which its Mayor. There were also a number of activities such as a bicycle tour of Berlin/Potsdam.

Chanah: “Thanks to this Summer Academy, I now know that there are many factors involved in changing to an infrastructure where the use of more sustainable transport (such as micromobility and public transport) is preferred. It became clear that there are many challenges, but in addition, we were given many solutions. During these two weeks, I was surrounded by different cultures in which good friendships were formed. This is therefore a highlight that I think back on with a smile.”

TH Wildau is one of our partner universities where we offer our students opportunities to do their flexible minor abroad.
