Evacuation exercise: gas leak turns out to be false alarm
You hear a sound, the so-called slow-woop signal, combined with a spoken message telling you to leave the building as soon as possible. Because on Tuesday 11 October, a gas leak was reportedly discovered in the Ruitenberglaan 29 education building…
No one is waiting for it, but everyone also knows that it is important: the annual evacuation exercise. Fortunately, this time the gas leak was a false alarm.
Why this exercise?
- are we ready for the real thing when the time comes?
- do the Emergency Response Officers know what to do?
- check: is the evacuation plan written down properly?
- do you know how your own building is set up?
- do you know the shortest escape route? Or do you just go all the way back to the entrance where you entered the building this morning?
- how do you respond in an emergency?
Who have a role in evacuations?
- Head of Emergency Response plans and organises evacuations
- ER team leader is responsible for correct implementation
- ER Officer carries out the evacuation
- Assembly point coordinator
- Plotter
- Evacuation officers are all of us!
