Bronze medal with a silver lining for HAN Hydromotive

Outstanding achievement! Bronze with a silver lining for HAN Hydromotive on the final day of the Shell Eco Marathon on the TT Circuit in Assen, after the students achieved a score of 275 km/m3 hydrogen. That’s 893 km/L sp95 (new team record)!

From all over the world, 12 sustainable student teams gathered from 31 May till 3 June in Assen and had only one goal: to drive as far as possible with as little energy as possible. In the end, 3 of the 5 Dutch teams came out on top. HAN Hydromotive, made up of students from the Automotive programme, came a very respectable third place.

Team manager and HAN student Joris Oosterhuis: “We are doing this as second-year students alongside our studies. We do get some credits for it, but that’s it. There is a lot of work involved and that is why I am super proud as team manager to see that we have made something so beautiful. We finished 3rd on a TT-circuit of 16.8 kilometres where we did 7 laps within 40 minutes.”

Driver/HAN student Marousha van Egmond found it very cool to be able to drive on the TT Circuit Assen. “The strategy was the most important thing and we were able to gain a lot from that. I am very proud of this team and it was a fantastic experience!”

HAN lecturer and coach Edwin Kemper adds, “Second place was even in sight at the end. After having been second the whole race, we were overtaken by the University of Twente in the last minutes. Unfortunately for us, but it is a great result and a personal record for the team. In addition, as a coach I am super proud of our Automotive Engineering students!”
