Trial replacing doors with wooden & bio-based ones

Turnstiles are installed in all buildings at the HAN. The past semesters, Industrial Design Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students worked on an experiment to replace the aluminium doors with wooden and biobased doors. This was quite a challenge from a structural point of view, due to the various static and dynamic forces, but it worked!

By using bio-based materials, the CO2 footprint of the doors can be reduced by 90%. This fits in well with HAN’s ambition to work together to reduce CO2 emissions.

Assa Abloy company has made demo doors available to experiment with sustainable materials. The doors will be developed by the next group of students and will actually be installed at Connectr Energy innovation.
