Lab support class initiative
As part of the engineering course students have to undergo a practical electrical engineering lab, where students are asked to solve a series of assignments. These assignments were designed to allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge achieved from the classes into practical skills.
It is natural that students during these practical sessions face a range of difficulties and challenges. However, it is very important that students voice these difficulties. A group of students has reached out to the department of Electrical Engineering in the HAN asking for further assistance. Their request was heard and the team leader Ing. Johan Brussen managed to arrange an extra support class where students can show up during and ask any kind of question regarding Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The class is led by Dr. Nawaf Aldabashi, who during that class supports the students with any questions that they have and discusses the basics of applied electrical and electronic engineering in the lab. The students that attended these sessions were observed to have gained confidence within an applied lab setting.
The department is both happy and proud to have been able to provide such a class to the students and that the students had the courage to ask for extra help. The department would like to express the importance of students voicing their concerns and needs, and would like to tell the students that departments will always listen to accommodate to your needs.
This article also shows the gratitude of those students and demonstrates how a short support session can make a positive lifelong impact.
Finally the department would like to share a final message to the students. We will always try to provide you with your needs, to provide you with a positive learning experience.
From Omr Ali Mahmoud
“At the start of the practical lab classes I felt like I had very little knowledge about most of the equipment in the lab. I was struggling and did not know how to connect basic circuits. I asked the professor if there was anyway to get support lab classes to improve and get to learn more about the basics of electrical circuits. I was happy to hear that there would be support lab classes. In the first class I got to learn more about the basics and how the equipments worked. It finally started to feel like I knew what I was doing and not just doing anything hoping that I was doing it right. I feel way more confident now going into the next lab classes. The support really did help me get more knowledge and they really made the assignments easier to understand. I’m looking forward to learning more in the next lab support course!

“I would like to thank for the extra lab lesson. It really helped me with my assignments. As my first day at the lab for the first lesson I didn’t really know what to expect. And then when I started to do my assignments it was really stressful, because I didn’t have any experience with measuring with multimeter or building circuits from a circui diagram and so on. And with the lab lesson we have once a week for about two hours and fifteen minutes. It was really tough trying to make the assignments on time and learning how the lab instruments work. But with extra lab lesson Dr. Nawaf Aldabashi has managed to get for us. I used time to learn and do some of the projects. It was really helpful. Thank you!”
From Aram Kbel:
“I am personally very happy and appreciate the effort of Dr. Nawaf Aldabashi for the extra attention for students who do not have the experience and the knowledge of the basics in the lab. This lab gives students the opportunity to ask their questions with no fear that someone else might judge them or think they are not as qualifeid. in my opinion, students are now more motivated to learn since they asked for this extra lab lesson. I am very excited about the next week’s class!”
