Rules for the workshops and labs

What are the rules for the workshops and labs at HAN School of Engineering and Automotive?

  1. COMMON SENSE SHOULD BE YOUR PRIORITY
Take all reasonable measures to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  2. BE PREPARED
Know the workshop rules. Make sure you understand how to use machinery properly. Evaluate the risks that the work poses before you begin.
  3. ENSURE YOU HAVE PERMISSION
You may only work in a workshop and use equipment during opening hours and with the permission of the lecturer or supervisor concerned.
  4. PROTECT YOURSELF
Wear closed, sensible shoes and closefitting clothing (legs covered), and tie long hair back. Wear mandatory personal protective equipment
(see pictograms at the location). The disabling of protective features is strictly prohibited.
  5. FOCUS
Only one person should operate (undisturbed) one machine at a time. Only turn on machines when necessary. Do not use mobile phones. No eating or drinking. Store coats and bags in the designated areas.
  6. KEEP AN EYE ON EACH OTHER
Talk to each other and/or report unsafe working methods and work situations to the supervisor (even those that cannot be corrected immediately). You should never work alone in a workshop.
  7. TIDY UP
Switch off all equipment or test settings before leaving the workshop. You are responsible for clearing up all the materials you use.
  8. DO NOT HESITATE IN AN EMERGENCY
Take action to avoid or mitigate serious dangers or negligence. Know where emergency equipment can be found and where the (emergency) exit is. When evacuating, leave everything behind and walk away. If necessary, report the situation using the EMERGENCY NUMBER: 0800 – 925 55 55.
