Develop lighter construction for truck trailer

A new group of eight Mechanical Engineering and Automotive students is working on the multidisciplinary project MultiTec.

Joran Schouwstra is one of the students and explains that the project focuses on making the construction of a truck trailer lighter. “With the aim of using the weight saved in the frame for additional payloads. We are zooming in on a part of the structure that will be analysed and tested for load, material and joining techniques.”

What is the main goal of this project?

“The main objective is to deliver a proof of concept of a lighter structure composed of multiple materials. This should be as strong as steel; the currently used material. This is to show our partners different alternative ways to test these structures for strength and fatigue and perhaps have them incorporated into the production process.”
