Gravity Racer on 20 December!
On Tuesday afternoon 20 December 2022, the Gravity Racer will be held on the exit of parking deck behind the building at Ruitenberglaan 29 from 13 to 15.30 hours! The annual event is a popular 2nd-year project at Automotive Engineering. The homemade vehicles are highly competitive. As a result, the differences between them will be small. The race promises to be unnervingly exciting!
What does this race entail?
Lecturer Arthur Appelman: “In the third semester, 8 groups from Automotive Engineering designed and built a “Gravity Racer”. This is a vehicle that has to run a course as fast as possible using gravity, after first driving down the parking deck exit ramp at dizzying speed. It is a fun and educational project that students are working on with great enthusiasm.”
What does the vehicle have to comply with?
“The vehicle has to be built to our own design. So all parts must first be very well calculated and drawn by the students. Last week, they passed a successful technical and safety inspection.”
“The assessment is mainly based on the design and its follow-up in the construction process. Other than that, of course, what counts is the (growth in) professionalism and cooperation within the team.”
How did this race actually come about?
“The race is derived from the well-known Red Bull Gravity race in which numerous professional teams compete.”
Is there a record of the previous race?
Yes, student Jay Kosters made a nice and short impression of the previous race held on 26 January 2022 for his 40-hour activity:
