Creating drainage tubes with the clay printer at the FabLab

The FabLab Arnhem, part of the School of Engineering and Automotive, has started an interesting collaboration with Vicky-Lynn Geerdink. She is Product Engineering student at ArtEZ (art school).

For her project, Geerdink used the Vormvrij Lutum clay printer in the FabLab and the Nabatherm oven. She’s explaining her motivations to use clay. “City and nature are usually seen as two separate worlds. My collection of drainage tubes is connecting industrialised building principles with natural organisms, in both material and shape. I have been able to produce one of these drainage tubes in collaboration with the FabLab thanks to the available 3D clay printer.

For her product collection, Geerdink first scanned bark with a 3D-scanner after which she edited it on a computer. “I decided to use this technique, because I wanted to achieve a high level of detail for my work. This product has become part of a series of drainage tubes that I presented during the ArtEZ finals”.

In the meantime, Geerdink has graduated for the ArtEZ Product Engineering degree course with this product.
