Electrical engineering students go off the gas!
The energy transition and crisis are keeping us busy. This certainly also applies to our new batch of 1st-year Electrical Engineering students!
In the subject Sustainable Electricity Grid with lecturers Joke Westra and Ronald van Buuren, they learn about the effects of more and more sustainably generated electricity on the electricity grid. They also design a completely CO2-free energy supply for their own home based on solar panels and heating with a heat pump.
Joke explains: “In the case study they are focusing on, the students are tasked with analysing a small energy system (house level) and proposing a solution for heating the house, without natural gas. The site is subject to a grid capacity constraint. Our students have shown that they understand both balance and congestion issues. They can also formulate solutions to such challenges. And that in the first block!”
The pictures show the students’ ideas presented in the form of a poster presentation. Here, the lecturers are talking to students about their approach and devised solution. Thus, it turned out to be a successful conclusion!
