S6 Project: Cooperative Agrobotics
Nitrogen regulations are becoming increasingly stringent in the Netherlands and in the rest of Europe. This has major consequences for the agricultural sector. The stricter rules are forcing agricultural companies to emit less nitrogen, but still produce enough to stay in business.
One solution to this is autonomous and cooperative agricultural-robots. These robots ensure that an agricultural company or livestock farm emits less nitrogen by harvesting and performing their tasks in the most efficient way, and can thus continue to exist. These robots can autonomously perform tasks in the field and in the barn, leaving the farmer with more time for other activities.
We are a project group of 9 students. Our group is composed of students from the Automotive Engineering and Embedded Systems programs. As a project group, together with the project partners H2trac and Lely the goal is to upgrade the scaled robots to a lookalike of the H2track E-OX 175. Perform software upgrades in ROS and create a physical environment to test to cooperative scenarios and simulation. A business report will also be created. With this the skills of programming, laser cutting, 3D printing will be trained.
At the moment we are finishing the new robot, which is on a scale of 1 to 10, and making the physical environment. Ultimately, our goal is to have 2 robots working together with the new software in the physical environment. Everything will also be documented so that the project can continue to develop. Next semester, a new group of students will continue with this project.
