Working with the latest systems on board the world’s finest luxury yachts
Are you thrilled at the prospect of working with the latest systems on board the world’s finest luxury yachts? For Joppe, the boost he gets from his workplace is amazing!
Joppe Schuurmans studied Embedded Systems Engineering (ESE) at the HAN University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands and for the past six years has been an AVIT & lighting control application engineer at Alewijnse.
Working on superyachts
He really enjoys working on superyachts. For these large vessels he designs lighting systems and audio, video and other ICT-related systems. He implements all these systems in such a skillful and discreet way once they are completed, the cabling is invisible! By doing this, he ensures the integration of smart technology in the high-class world of superyachts is achieved to the highest standards.
Joppe: “On a superyacht, audio-visual and entertainment systems are a vital part of the overall experience. Everything on board has be of the highest quality and, once installed, their efficient operation is a top priority. Fast and discreet servicing, maintenance and, when necessary, replacement are therefore essential, wherever in the world the yachts may be. So, yes, the meeting of luxury yachts and technology represents the best of both worlds to me.”
SeaXplorer La Datcha
On the superyacht SeaXplorer La Datcha, Joppe was tasked with installing the latest AV/IT systems that play a vital role in the onboard experience for the owner, guests and crew on board. Alewijnse’s responsibilities included the full audio-visual systems for both the guest and crew areas, the ship’s IT systems (backbone, source selector, Wi-Fi, LAN sockets etc), CCTV, onboard telephones, TVRO, VSAT, an EntryPod gangway video phone and a Yachteye infotainment system. Thanks to Joppe and his colleagues, the overall result is a future proof AV/IT installation achieved by using the latest technologies available.
Joppe was also allowed to engineer high-tech systems for the 55-meter superyacht Galene. Alewijnse was responsible for the systems integration and complete electrical installation of the entertainment, navigation and communication systems, IT and INS on board this advanced motor yacht.
Four former ESE students are now working in the Alewijnse AVIT department at Alewijnse. Trainees are also regularly placed there, with nice assignments.
Are you curious and would you like to work in the high-tech world of yachting as well?
